To design a collection of 6 running silhouettes and 2 new toolings for local India market.
This upper was put together without a concept drawing first. Or I should say I design this upper based on the upper material that I wanted to use as the main body. I found this existing piece of jacquard upper from a supply sample book that I am able to utilize without spending a lot of time and money developing up front. The concept I have in mind for this design is to combine a jacquard piece with a hyper-fuse design overlay.
Even though this jacquard is not a perfect fit for this shoe but it does have enough designs at forefoot and not enough at heel area, which fits my concept to design some heel support overlay. The two heel support overlays are extended to the top eyelets, which is connected to the outdoor style lace eye stay. Also I incooporated the branding into the support piece.
The rest of the upper overlays and applications are designed to work with this existing jacquard upper. The eye-stay shape is to merge into the ventilation of the jacquard upper. The counter part is also designed to follow the existing jacquard design.
This existing jacquard upper was designed for a ladies running shoe. However, this design is supposed to be unisex. I wanted to inject something masculine to keep the entire shoe in harmony. I decided on using an outdoor lace loop/eye-stay system.
I also particularly fond of the way the logo is integrated into the counter stabilizer overlay. The positive and negative contrast execution of the logo is very interesting if I may say so myself.
Below are the contact sheet style silhouette discovery drawings of the initial concept.
The original medial design is different than the prototype sample. That mainly is due to the original medial design has two parts, which both pieces cover way to much of the existing jacquard design.
These cad colors show that I prefer the color pop of the logo branding part and leaving the rest of the shoe in a unified color theme.
